Vinyltop
1)Will my "weed wacker" tear up my vinyl fence?
Yes, a "weed wacker" will cut through vinyl just as it would grass or other lawn vegetation. With normal string, it would take repetitive hits to cut through.
2)What kind of warranty does your vinyl fence carry?
Our vinyl products carry a lifetime warranty for residential applications. Commercial properties get a 30 year warranty. Lightning Fence Inc. has a one year warranty on our workmanship.
3)What is vinyl fence?
Vinyl fencing, also known as PVC, is the same same as PVC piping used for water pipes. It has acrylics added for strenght along with UV (ultraviolet) inhibitors to prevent yellowing.
4)How strong is vinyl fencing?
Lightning Fence Inc.'s vinyl fencing is just as strong as wood.
5)Will vinyl crack or peel?
No, our vinyl fence comes with a warranty guaranteeing against cracking, peeling, and yellowing.
6)Can I clean my vinyl fence?
Yes, with a mixture of mild soap and water.
7)Do I need to paint my vinyl fence?
No, unlike wood our vinyl will never need painting.
8)Does your vinyl come in colors?
Yes, most of our vinyl styles come in white, tan and grey. Custom colors are available.
Woodtop
1)Do you have to wait a period of time before staining or painting?
You should wait at least two weeks following installation of your fence before thinking about treating. Then check the fence, if it is dry to the touch then go ahead and treat.
2)Do you recommend any particular type of wood treatment?
We do not recommend any particular brand. We do recommend that you visit your local hardware, lumber, or paint store for advice on wood treatment.
3)Do the wood latches lock?
Yes, the wood latches have a piece that slides back and forth to lock and unlock. There is also a hole inside and out for a pad lock. There are keyed latches available.
4)Will the knots fall out?
That would depend on what type of knot it is, "ring" knot or "tight" knot. Both have the potentiality of shrinking and falling out. Ring knots are more likely to fall out than the tight knot. At the time of fabrication we try to "weed" out any boards which appear to have loose knots, but it is hard to tell if a knot has the potential of coming loose in the future.
5)Does Lightning Fence Inc. use nails or screws to put their fences together?
We use primarily nails because screws cost more. This has been a proven fastener for us for over 30 years.
6)What type of nail is it?
We use all galvanized steel nails.
Chainlinktop
1)Is vinyl coated chainlink better than just plain galvanized?
It all depends on what you are looking for price or longevity. Vinyl coated chainlink is galvanized wire coated with a layer of vinyl giving you a colored appearance and increasing the life of the wire. On the other hand, it does cost more than just plain galvanized.
2)What do you paint on a rusty chainlink fence?
There are several good products on the market and more and more are developed every day. Currently the best products are those that have a rust inhibitor in them (like Rustoleum). To apply them, take two thick nap rollers (one on each side of the chainlink), and roll them in unison. Be sure to cover the ground and any shrubs or plants you don't want to die with tarps or drop cloths since this can be messy.
3)Does the chainlink latch lock?
The normal chainlink latch has a hole for a pad lock. There are "child proof" latches and keyed locking latches available.
Ornamentaltop
1)What is the warranty on ornamental fencing?
We carry two different types of ornamental fencing, aluminum and steel. The aluminum has a lifetime limited warranty. The steel has a 10 year warranty.
2)How does the cost of ornamental compare to other types of fencing?
Ornamental costs approximately 10% more than vinyl, 20% more than wood, and 30% more than chainlink.
3)Can I get privacy out of ornamental fencing?
No, we do not carry and ornametal privacy fencing. Wood or vinyl better fit these applications.
Kennelstop
1)Do I have to place my kennel on a cement slab?
No, it is not necessary for the kennel to sit on a cement slab. It is better to have a cement slab. *note- If you are going to pour a cement slab, be sure to make the slab one foot wider and longer than your kennel to ensure a good fit.
Misc.top
1)Do I need a building permit for my fence?
In most areas, yes. Be sure to check with your local city hall or other governing body. Lightning Fence Inc. requires the customer to get all necessary permits. *note- If your area requires a permit, be sure to call for an inspection once the fence has been completed.
